Manuela Carrasco
Manuela Carrasco is undoubtedly the Goddess of flamenco dance - this is how Juan De Dios Rodríguez Heredia described her, due to the majesty with which she moves across the stage - who has been awarded with the National Dance Award and Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts. She is an autodidact dancer who followed the impulse of her heart against her parents’ wishes, who did not want her to pursue a career as an artist. In her dance can be seen clear influences from Carmen Amaya and Farruco. This woman from Triana is a born dancer and temperamental like few others. Manuela Carrasco has been, above any other consideration, a guardian of purity and a defender of the most traditional flamenco after more than five decades of a career in which she has toured the most important theatres in the world. She has always opted for flamenco dance in her shows, with no other argument or pretext than to show her way of feeling and living. “Always Manuela” is the show with which she bids farewell to the stage. La hija del Sordo will once again stomp her heels on the boards of Baluarte to make us feel the full strength of her dance, without any script that stifles her particular way of understanding dance.
