Tomás Romero Moreno, ‘Tomasito’, was born in Jerez de la Frontera, in the province of Cadiz, in 1969. Born into a flamenco dynasty –his mother is the flamenco matriarch La Bastiana- he exceled as a child in singing and dancing for his neighborhood.
In 1984, Tomasito began dancing with ‘Los Canasteros’ and was asked to take part in a New Year’s Special on Spanish television. He began performing in music halls in Madrid and Barcelona, where he has been living. He has toured through Europe, America, and even Australia, accompanying the great guitarist Paco Peña.
A major turning point in Tomasito’s career was an encounter with singer Lola Flores. His mother introduced him to ‘La Faraona’ [Lola Flores’ artistic name], who immediately recognised his mastery as bailaor [flamenco dancer] and included him in her troupe.
Tomasito’s first record was released in 1994. Shortly after that, he recorded his second album, ‘Tomasito’, combining flamenco with other musical styles such as rap and blues, demonstrating his command of the art of fusion.
Several albums have seen the light since that time, notably, ‘Azalvajao’ (2013). This is an album, recorded at legendary Luis Garrido’s studio, conceived to break barriers as only he could do. The recording includes collaborations from such artists as Bebe, Pepe Habichuela and Soleá Morente.
