Tomasa Guerrero Carrasco, “La Macanita” (Jerez de la Frontera, 1968) sparkled as a singer since she was a child. She was heir and keeper of voices of singers like La Paquera, Fernanda de Utrera and La Perla de Cádiz. Her first performances took place in her hometown and later she started singing in the tablaos of Madrid Los Canasteros and Zambra. In 1998 she participated in the historic recording Tauromagia, of Manolo Sanlúcar, and later she recorded “A la luna nueva” (To the new moon), her first solo album.
She got the award from the flamenco critics “Flamenco Hoy” twice and in 2016 she was recognized with the gypsy woman prize by the Fundación Secretariado Gitano. In 2017 was awarded with the prize “Alma Flamenca” (Flamenco Soul) of the Pasarela Flamenca de Jerez. Her latest album, “Directo en el Círculo Flamenco de Madrid” (Live at Circulo Flamenco de Madrid), was nominated to the Latin Grammy Awards in the category of flamenco records in 2017.
